1. Washing Your Hair Twice
Number one is from celebrity hairstylist Sal Salcedo, and I saw an article that was written about this concept. It’s fundamental, but wow. It makes a big difference with your hair, so please humor me later this week and try it. However, it is simply washing your hair twice in the same shower. So again, it sounds essential, but the theory behind it makes sense, especially when you try it and notice the difference. Still, the idea behind it is you wash your hair, you know, one time in the shower, and that gets off all of the gunk and the buildup from the products We use and simple, you know, the oils and grease.
And then we stop, and then we get out, and we dry it, you know, we go through the motions, and our hair gets dirty pretty quickly. Then the process starts all over again. Whereas if you wash your hair twice in the same shower session, you get off all of the oils and the gunk and the buildup, you rewash it, and that cleans your scalp. That reaches your hair follicle. It just does deep cleaning. And afterward, you can go about the rest of your week, and your hair feels much healthier and cleaner, and you can go way longer without rewashing your hair.
2. IN COMMON Magic Myst
Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, two celebrity hair stylists, offer the following advice. A lot of celebrities go to it. But I’m obsessed with the Magic Myst. Like, this is what I think is a big secret. More people need to try this. I discovered this somewhere last year, and I believe I once shared it with you guys. But to me, this is a big one when it comes to hair secrets. And they have some other hair systems, but to me, this is, like, start with this because you’ll love it immediately. At least, that’s what happened to me.
Then one of my friends mentioned how much she liked it, and I thought, “I think I have that.” So I tried it, and wow, there was an immediate difference. So it does four different things, which is impressive. It is a leave-in conditioner. It helps with frizz. And then, finally, it’s also a heat protectant. So if you are somebody that likes to use various products like that, not only does that tend to just weigh your hair down because you’re using. It’s many things, but it’s also a cluttered mess on your bathroom counter. This takes the place of it all, which is fantastic. It also contains very beneficial ingredients, such as vitamins for your hair.
But what hooked me immediately is, you know, how I use it: I get out of the shower, towel dry my hair, and spray this. It’s like a beautiful mist. It’s a great spray; it smells nice. It’s not overpowering. But I spray it all through my hair. And sometimes, I let my hair air dry a bit. Other times I go right into blow-drying it. But wow, it instantly makes your hair look better. It just smooths it out, removes the frizz, and makes it look so much shinier, which is what I love. So if you think that you can only have shiny hair.
3. Blow Drying
This next trick is just a universal hairdresser tip. I have been told this multiple times by multiple hairdressers, and it’s something that we at home never do, but we should try to remember to do it, and it’s blow drying our hair. First of all, that’s another thing. Blow-drying your hair is not as damaging as we all think. It does make our hair look better because, you know, we have cuticles in our hair.
And they’re all kind of like going in different directions when we get it. So, when we blow dry our hair, we smooth down the hair shaft, making our hair look healthier, shinier, and more manageable. However, the secret is to always finish by blasting your hair with cold air. That seals in the shine and keeps those cuticles in place.
4. For Curling And Straightening Take Small Sections
I think I’m just going to take credit for this next hair secret. I’ve been doing this for about a decade, and I believe it makes a significant difference when curling and straightening your hair. So, start with smaller units when you’re doing that and taking sections. Everyone takes big chunks because they wanna save time. They think they can cut corners. No, you’re not saving any time because, in the end, your hairstyle will look a lot worse.
There’ll be pieces you kind of miss, so you’ll have to go in and re-curl, and then you’ll be kind of re-curling things you already did. It simply does not work out in the end, so work in little sections. But when you grab the area, the secret is to brush the team out every time. That may sound strange, but it all comes back to the hair follicles and cuticles. You want everything going in the same direction because it always results in a better curl and a better-straightened piece.
The next couple of tips involves increasing volume at the root, which, as you can see here, I kind of need. So these tips are great if you have longer hair, finer hair, or thinner hair like me and want some volume up at the top.
5. Round Curling Wand
So the first tip that involves volume is from Riawna Capri. She again is one of the founders of IN COMMON. But this is simple. All you need is a round curling wand. And you’ll see me do it here, but you take the top sections of your hair and just literally do kind of like a curl, like a smoothing curl. You can spray this IN COMMON Myst first. Again, that kind of like helps it hold a little bit better.
But create a nice slight curl and then clip it so that it sets, cools, and dries down in that formation. Maybe wait a minute, maybe two minutes, do something else, work on your makeup, let it loose, run your fingers through it with your hair, and create this instant but the lasting volume at the root.
6. Micro Hair Crimper
Another hair secret for added volume, and this one is so good, this one’s so sneaky, it’s so easy everyone can do it. But this tip is actually from a friend, a local hairdresser. Her name is Cassie Wiest, But her advice is to take a micro hair crimper, like one of those hair crimpers from the ’90s. Some of us may remember them. But crimp your section underneath the top portion of your hair, like hide it underneath the head area, but crimp it to add instant lift and instant volume to your hair. Again, no one sees any of the crimped pieces, but it’s an easy way to add charge and importance to the roots of your hair.
7. Use Dry Shampoo
The following hair secret comes from Christian Wood. And this has to do with dry shampoo. This is brilliant, and it works perfectly. So I’m a massive fan of dry shampoo. For example, the longer I can go without washing my hair, the better. So, just like everyone else who uses dry shampoo, you spray it in your hair, and it has a powdery consistency on purpose.
It sucks up the residue and the oils in our hair to make it last longer. But the secret is to blast your hair with a hair dryer to blast out the dry shampoo, like literally pushing out the powder residue. And with that kind goes the oils, dirt, and rubble so that our hair feels much cleaner. It gives it volume.
8. Magic Myst spray
So since we’re talking about extending your hair’s life longer than you usually would, I again wanted to mention this Magic Myst spray as a secret touch-up spray. I love using this on dry hair later on in the week. I think it’s a great way to refresh your hairstyle and add a boost of shine.
9. Dryer Sheet For Static Hair
The following hair secret has to do with static in your hair. I just went downstairs and brushed my hair with one of the kids’ combs. It’s like plastic, and it generates a lot of static electricity. Especially in the wintertime, when it’s just dry out, many of us suffer from static in our hair, which is so annoying. A dryer sheet is the simplest way to instantly fix that.
I wouldn’t say I like dryer sheets, usually. I think they are so unhealthy for our clothes and laundry and like going on our bodies, but it’s an instant fix on your hair. I mean, you’ll see this immediately. Look at that; it’s like an instant. And you don’t even need to. Don’t put it up near your scalp or anything; do it on your hair, and it’s an instant fix.
10. Silk Pillowcase
The following hair secret involves using a silk pillowcase, which everyone always raves about how good silk pillowcases are for our face. Studies are proving that it reduces the fine lines and wrinkles on our faces just because of its smoothness. However, people rarely discuss how beneficial it is to our hair. It is very soothing to our hair. We wake up with far fewer tangles and far fewer knots. It just kind of smooths the hair at night. Silk pillowcases are especially popular and beneficial for people with curly hair.
