In 1996, conjoined twins Abby Hensel and Brittany Hensel gained fame on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Now, Abby has marked a major milestone by tying the knot.

After their TV debut, the sisters starred in the heartwarming reality series “Abby and Brittany” on TLC. The show chronicled their everyday experiences, from driving to European adventures and even riding a moped. Following their college graduation with education degrees, the series came to an end.

In 2021, Abby, now 34, married Josh Bowling, a nurse and US Army veteran, in their home state of Minnesota. The couple’s wedding photographs were shared via web-based entertainment.

Currently, both sisters are teaching fifth grade in Minnesota. Their family enjoys activities like hiking, indulging in ice cream, and snow tubing, as evident from pictures and videos on Bowling’s Facebook page. Despite attempts to reach out, Abby has not responded for comment.

Abby and Brittany are twins who are joined together, sharing a bloodstream and all organs below the waist. Abby is in charge of moving their right arm and leg, while Brittany controls the left side.

Their parents, Patty and Mike Hensel, made the decision not to have surgery to separate them when they were born in 1990. Doctors warned that the surgery was too risky and there was a low chance that both twins would survive.

How could you possibly choose between the two?” Mike wondered during a 2001 interview with Time magazine.

Conjoined twins occur in only about one in every 200,000 live births. According to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, approximately 70% of conjoined twins are female, with most being stillborn.

In the 2003 documentary “Joined for Life,” Patty Hensel mentioned that her daughters expressed interest in becoming mothers one day.

“They’re considering it because those organs do function for them,” Patty explained.

“Yeah, we want to be moms,” Brittany added. “Yet, we’re just 16, so we haven’t exactly sorted out how that will occur yet. We’ll sort it out when the opportunity arrives.
