Did Your First Calvin Campaign Feel Like a Big Hit to You?
sure, I mean, sure… Jeremy Allen White: Yeah, yeah…I believe that it accomplished what it was intended to accomplish. I had a lot of feelings of insecurity leading up to the actual shoot, and it was making me feel sort of insane. There is a significant difference between acting on film or television and doing these kinds of photo shoots or campaigns. This is due to the fact that when you are acting on film or television, your goal is to sort of forget the camera is there. However, when you are doing these kinds of photos, your partner is almost like the photographer and the camera. Consequently, I was apprehensive about trying to make that work.
Nevertheless, it was a very unique experience. At the time that the initial campaign was launched, I was in New York. I got up early that morning and went with a friend of mine who brought his camera with him to take pictures of the billboard that was being up on Houston. We did this before the general public saw it for the first time. And that was a really great and intimate experience, as well as a sense of accomplishment. Despite everything, it was still mine in a really pleasant way. Following that, in the weeks that followed, everyone else witnessed it. This campaign also included a significant amount of me wearing denim on denim. Both the shirt and the jacket that Calvin carries are made of denim, and both of them are incredibly gorgeous. I wore the button-down shirt that Calvin carries. I don’t care what other people think; I believe that wearing denim atop denim will have a stylish appearance forever. That shot took place in April, and after that, [denim-on-denim] became a standard for me to wear on summer evenings. There were a lot of button-down shirts and jeans made of denim.

When I say that Bruce Springsteen is a guy, I mean it in the most positive way possible. He’s the kind of man who wears jeans and a T-shirt. Before we started this affair, it was great to find out that we have at least something in common with each other.
How Are You Preparing for the Role?
In my opinion, it is a stroke of good fortune that there is now a group of people working together to assist young actors in portraying rock icons. In a chuckle I am getting ready for this thing with the assistance of a bunch of folks who are incredibly talented and who are helping me prepare vocally and musically. I am also quite fortunate in that Bruce is very enthusiastic about the project. As a result, I have had the opportunity to interact with him, and he is no doubt the most amazing individual. There is also an overwhelming amount of footage. Going down a rabbit hole on YouTube and finding him at all of these different times in his life and being able to listen to his singing voice as well as his speaking voice is a really cool experience. Just a lot of listening to him and a lot of observing him has been the way things have been since the beginning. Putting together this has been a lot of fun.
Honestly, I’m not much of a fashionista. Chris [Storer], our showrunner, is very knowledgeable, and Matty [Matheson, a real-life chef who plays handyman Neil Fak in the series] is a really stylish individual who really follows a lot of the stuff that is going on in the world. It is my belief that Carmy’s interest in fashion originated from the notion that a large number of chefs, including Matty, Matty himself, and Courtney, Chris’s sister, are also interested in fashion or design. I believe that this is the source of Carmy’s interest in fashion. It was simply something that people discovered to be true in the world of restaurants, and that is why Carmy is interested in fashion.
For me, when we first meet Carmy in the first season, if he had any interest in fashion, his brain surely did not have room to focus on that, or that was not a location where he was able to express himself in the fashion world or what he was wearing for that matter. It was necessary for us to locate something that might be considered a uniform. I suppose that in a way, Carmy’s uniform, which consists of work pants and a T-shirt, is more in line with my style, which is Jeremy’s. To put it another way, our styles were not dissimilar to one another.
You Won That Round Against Pharrell!

It is true, however, that comfort and [understanding] what looks well on you are important. When I go in, I kind of simply say, “Well, this feels more comfortable to me, and this feels less comfortable.” And of course, we experimented with a couple of different variations of the sheerness of an open shirt, which was a bit more of a contemporary touch to suiting that was otherwise quite timeless. The suit that they designed for me for the Golden Globes was really stunning and classic.
The suiting, on the other hand, was not only comfortable but also a little loose. What I find most enjoyable about men’s suits in particular is the question of whether or not the wearer appears to be at ease. Is it seemingly effortless to do? Are you able to handle it? If a suit is well-made and tailored to fit your body, it will eventually help you feel more confident and empowered, as well as effortless and cool. That suit was put together in such a stunning manner by them.
