If you haven’t read George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, you might not know that Alicent Hightower and King Viserys I Targaryen have a fourth child named Daeron Targaryen. Up until now, the House of the Dragon has introduced their three older children: Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond.
During Season 1 of House of the Dragon, Daeron wasn’t around during the early timeline when the youngest Targaryen kids were small. This led to lots of theories that he might have been completely cut from the show.
Before House of the Dragon season 2 premiered, showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that Daeron continues to be a character in the show, as HBO included him in their breakdown of the Targaryen family tree.
Strangely, his parents and siblings never talked about him, especially after Viserys died in the first season of House of the Dragon. But now, after his grandfather Otto Hightower loses his job as Hand of the King, he’s heading to Oldtown to care for Daeron. This sets the scene for Daeron’s big debut in the Game of Thrones prequel.
We’re not sure when Daeron Targaryen left for Oldtown, but he’s been at House Hightower’s stronghold since before Rhaenyra’s son Joffrey Velaryon was born.
