Mike McDaniel, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, has stated his trust in Skylar Thompson, the third-year quarterback. Thompson is scheduled to take over the offense now that Tua Tagovailoa is participating in the concussion protocol of the National Football League. However, the coach did mention that the Dolphins will include another passer in their roster shortly.

McDaniel made the statement on Friday. “The team and the organization are very confident in Skylar,” he stated. There is a good explanation for why he was working as our backup quarterback. With that being said, we will bring in someone; at the moment, we are just weighing the benefits and drawbacks of the various scenarios and working through all of the alternatives to determine what will be most beneficial for the team. As things stand right now, however, I anticipate that Skylar will be the next person to step up.
Despite spending the entirety of the previous year on the Dolphins’ practice squad, Thompson, who was selected in the seventh round in 2022, made two starts during the regular season and one start during the postseason as a rookie. After nearly two years, he finally saw action in the regular season on Thursday night, taking over for Tagovailoa. He finished with eight completions out of fourteen passes for a total of eighty yards.
“After the 31-10 loss on Thursday night, McDaniel said, “These are the feelings that the crew has together. My impression is that guys have a lot of faith in Skylar. It is beyond a doubt that I have complete faith in him. When the season was on the line, we faced off against the Bills in a playoff game as rookies, and despite being a much better player now, we managed to win an elimination game and go head-to-head with them.”
The Dolphins do not anticipate Tagovailoa making a rapid recovery from his concussion, as seen by their choice to search the quarterback market immediately.
Ryan Tannehill, C.J. Beathard, and Blaine Gabbert are some of the free agents that would be available to the team. There is also the possibility that an individual such as Jimmy Garoppolo or Carson Wentz might be acquired through a trade.
